The Space
La Casetta sul Mare Tuscany is a detached Eco Villa carefully designed by my husband, architect Andrea Magnaghi. After spending my childhood in Indonesia, I was looking forward to bringing some of the country's traditional elements to our nature retreat in this corner of paradise. Using only natural materials, solar panels, wood burners and traditional Italian construction techniques, we were able to beautifully combine Italian and Indonesian styles in our little corner of paradise. Everything is carved with love.

The eco-lodge is built on a waterfront hillside surrounded by 3 hectares of unspoiled nature and incredible panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea with the islands of Giglio and Giannutri right in front. From the large garden filled with olive trees and wild rosemary scrubs, sunrise and sunset can be seen like never before.

NATURAL STONE ARCHITECTURE - The building itself is all made of natural stone and natural lime (no cement is used) designed by incorporating cross ventilation, water recycling, solar energy and low light pollution.
The main house (70 sq m) is where the living area with fireplace, sofas and dining table carved from mango wood; also the main king-size bedroom is here creating a loft feeling; connected to this area is the second separate bedroom with a king-size bed); the kitchen is outside in a separate pavilion.

WOODBURNER- On cooler evenings you can turn on the wood stove, snuggle up and warm the bedroom while enjoying the outdoor experience.

MAIN BUILDING & MASTER BEDROOM- The main building 70 sqm is an open space with wood beam floors, two large floor to ceiling 3 meters glass openable windows that create and inside outside experience. In summer, when you want to open the windows are fully retractable. In the cold night you can close the sliding windows, turn on the beautiful wood stove and curl up.

The interior of this main area is very large and spacious with its romantic wooden four-poster double bed, linen curtains. There are also large wooden trailing sofas and a solid wood table. All the furniture is antique from Indonesia.

The huge floor and ceiling sliding glass doors give the house a contemporary feel and enhance the view that is already to die for!

SECOND GUEST ROOM: Separate from this main area is the cozy guest room with a king-size bed and romantic cotton curtains. From the bed you have an incredible view of the sea. You can fully open the huge floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy the sea breeze.

INSIDE BATHROOM - Connecting these two rooms is the inside bathroom with toilet and step shower. The hot water is connected to the solar water system, and in winter to get more hot water you need to light the wood burner.

OUTDOOR LIVING - The outdoor living areas are built on large wooden terraces with comfortable beanbag sofas, hammocks, and hanging tree nets that create the perfect atmosphere for guests to indulge in some carefree vacation time. Nothing is as relaxing as sleeping under the moonlight while listening to the sound of the waves!

A SHOWER WITH A VIEW: The bathroom is only outdoors and has a beautiful hot solar shower; it is a true paradise for those seeking a back-to-nature experience.

SOLAR KITCHEN: The kitchen also runs on solar power with a large refrigerator and freezer and gas stove. You will find everything you need: plates, pans, delicious cutlery and some basic necessities such as olive oil, salt, sugar and tea.

LE CANNELLE BEACH CLUB - Our guests have access to the members-only Le Cannelle Beach private club.

CROSS VENTILATION WINDOWS WITH A VIEW - Designed to be in the sink with nature; during spring and summer, the large windows can be fully opened, this creates a magical natural indoor/outdoor atmosphere and natural freshness. The large windows are equipped with eco-friendly bamboo shutters that let in fresh morning air. During cold autumn and winter nights you can enjoy the breathtaking view by closing the large windows and cuddling up in front of the wood stove.

NO NEIGHBORHOOD - Silence and coziness are a strong point. Away from any naighbours, light and noise pollution, begins to light up the horizon at night. You will have a view of the Milky Way with which only the Sahara Desert can compete! When the moon rises, you'll follow its silvery glaze over the sea.

SOLAR PANELS: The lodge runs only on NEWLY INSTALLED solar power and offers a fantastic Bose sound system (USB connection only). Here, the power is more than enough to charge your cell phone or computer, but we do not have a TV or other electronic devices. To dry your hair, relax in the sun for a few minutes....
The wifi is good, although if you want to be off the grid, just turn it off and enjoy painting!

The house is equipped with board games (backgamon and cards) and a beautiful telescope for exploring the Milky Way.

Guest access
Casetta sul Mare Tuscany is just a 15-minute walk from the private beach at Le Cannelle. You can also drive to the beach; you will have the remote control to open private access to the beach club.
In high season (June to September) there is only one café and restaurant on the beach for members where you can eat by the sea and relax at the sun loungers.

Other things to keep in mind
We only have solar energy panels. The kitchen is equipped with a large refrigerator and all the necessary cookware and cutlery. There is no oven but a stove.

Grocery stores are all in the village of Santo Stefano, which is a 20-minute drive along the coast.

Hot water is solar, so on cloudy days in winter you will have to turn on the wood stove which heats the house and automatically hot water as well.
